Vare sig de andra gillar det eller inte ser jag dem som vita elefanter vid det sista vattenhålet. 68-generationens filmare i linnekläder, strävande uppför backen mot Bio Scala i Båstad den första veckan i augusti. "Samtalets och kamratskapets festival" sen tretton år. Några med ölmage, några utmärglade, alla snart över pensionsgränsen. Älskansvärda, otroligt kunniga. Den första svenska filmskolegenerationen. Upprorsmakarna: Dom kallar oss mods, Den vita sporten, En kärlekshistoria, Rekordåren, Här har du ditt liv... Blir vi någonsin bättre? Alldeles nyss hade de ett mäktigt inflytande över Filmsverige. Men nu är det slut. Aktionsradien snörps ihop för varje år. Några förskansar sig i sin frustration, aggressiva och surögda. Andra vitnar som milda zenmästare. Några sluter cirkeln. Andra öppnar den! Menade vi något med 68 är det i den kretsen vi hör hemma.

Båstad Film Festival, Wednesday.
Whether they like it or not I see them as old white elephants at the last water hole. The generation of '68, in linen clothes, struggling uphill towards Bio Scala in the first week of August. "Festival of talk and friendship", since 13 years. Some with a beer belly, some skinny like Chris Marker. Absolutely loveable, incredibly professional people. The first Swedish generation of trained and educated filmmakers. The rebels: They call us misfits, White sport, A love story, The record years, This is your life... Will we ever be better? Until just recently they had a mighty influence. But now it's all over. Some of them throws up bastions of frustration. Some just whiten like old zen masters. Some of them close the circle. But some of them open it up! If we ever meant something with 1968, that is where we belong.

Apropå ingenting: Fotbollsproffser Christian Wilhemson, Nantes, har blivit varg i veum sedan han skrivit på för det saudiska topplaget Al Hillal. "Ett steg bakåt i karriären!" "Chippen har spelat färdigt i landslaget!" För att det är en dålig klubb? Inte alls, Al Hillal har 11 raka ligasegrar. Det är bara det att araber kan inte spela fotboll...
